Thieves' secret - an amazing blend of oils

Year 1413, the plague is raging in Europe. The disease killed the unfortunate within two to eight days of contracting the infection. Trade ceased. The streets are full of corpses and people are fighting for their lives. (Sounds familiar?)

Under these conditions, a few merchants who previously imported spices from India rob the sick and the dead of anything that can be sold or exchanged for food. They take their clothes, shoes, jewelry, pots ...

Finally, four "Thieves" were caught. But the king is more interested in how they didn't get sick?! Merchants don't have much choice. The price for keeping information secret is too high.

Did the merchants use some kind of dark magic? No. Thanks to the knowledge about the healing properties of spices, they created a special blend of oils. Thieves put it on their hands, feet, temples, ears and around the mouth, which protected them from getting sick.

The merchants did not survive the epidemic (not because of the plague; they were hanged for the crimes they committed). But doctors in France started using their recipe. They put on a beak-like mask in which they placed rags soaked in oil.

So what are the special ingredients of this oil? These are actually five popular essential oils, which individually has proven strong healing properties, and combining them into one whole makes them even stronger:

Prepare your own Thieves' blend of oils:

You will need a dark glass bottle, which should then be stored in a cool place out of direct sunlight. There are 120 drops in the mix proposed below, so you will need a container of at least 7 ml (85 drops equals about 5 ml).

Take the oils in the following proportions:

40 drops of clove essential oil
35 drops of lemon essential oil
20 drops of cinnamon essential oil
15 drops of eucalyptus essential oil
10 drops of rosemary essential oil

Remember that the resulting mixture is very concentrated, so always dilute it before use.

Would you like to experiment a little with the composition? There are no contraindications to replace lemon oil with another citrus ingredient such as orange, grapefruit or bergamot oil. It's also a good idea to add a few drops of tea tree oil to make your blend last longer. Remember that this potion will be used by you - so make sure that you like its fragrance!
